Today's Riding "Flatlander at Work"

Today after I did some compulsory stunts. I clocked into the Flatland work session clock. I put in some time with my creativity and tried a few things that I have not linked together before. It was a fun day. I was going to take the day off but I am glad that I didn't.

Today's Riding- SKILLZ

Today it was all about trying to repeat what I did yesterday. My very first opposite hitchhiker Juggler. In between attempts I revisited a few links that I have only completed a hand full of times. The only way I will get those tricks consistent is to keep on doing them. I also pushed my self thanks to Effraim for his comment on Flatmatters: Lets see multiples rad dad! So I am going for it! Thanks E for the PUSH. One day I hope to be able to push you back!

Effraim - Flatmatters New Trick!

I got this from Effraim this morning
Flatmatters exclusive 3 of the year so far, this one is a work in progress well and truly, as I have yet to pull what I originally intended, but this is what publishing all these videos is all about to "share" and "push myself" and hopefully others. I used to do this half whopper move, check this video at: 1:54 for a reference, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTtIp52jmDs and I recently watched it again and I thought it would be cool to relearn it brakeless and whip with one scuff/stomp into the next move. enjoy! I'm loving making these.

Todays Riding Special Reqest

Today's Riding is dedicated to Rodney Williams as he made a special request today to do a specific trick. Most of the month of January I have not had the opportunity to make a today's riding video. I got out side today by his request pull the requested trick and hit a few more.

Trivia Answer for Question #3

The correct answer is D- R.L. Osborn

Miami hopper first appeared in the march 1985 issue of BMX Action.
R.L. Osborn, BMX Action march 1985: When I was doing some freestyle shows in Miami, Florida, this winter, saw one at the locals do the trick. His name was Paul Hopper, and he's a really nice guy. After I got this trick wired, I came up with a few variations of my own, and since Paul had no real name for it, I'm calling it The Miami Hopper after him

Everyone is welcome.

Trivia Answer for Question #2

The Answer is C!
C. Pete had a conversation on the phone and he thought Pete was on crack?

This message was posted on Global-Flat in 2005
Ilan,
Hey man what's up! Thanks for the compliment. I had a lot of fun in France and cant wait to go back, so many good riders and the vibe was on. Oh ya, the crack packer! The name came to be from a conversation I had on the phone with a rider named Eric Emmerson. I was explaining the trick to him over the phone and he didn't believe it could be done, and said" oh yea right your smokin crack." Since it was similar to the backpacker I decided to call it a crackpacker. Well I'm off to my night riding spot, thanks again. Ride on.

Peace,

This is a older production but this is the only time that I used Martin Luther King Jr in a BMX Freestyler production. So to remember him on this day. Here is Terry Adams Dreams Premier in Houston, Texas.

Terry Adams, one of Flatland BMX’s most well known riders, just released a new DVD/Documentary titled “DREAMS”.  This production, produced by Mickey Gaidos from New Orleans, highlights the travels of Terry Adams as he shares how good flatland has been to him and how the sport has given him the opportunity to travel the world.

Photos by Gary First

On Saturday the 15 of January 2011 you would have thought Saturday session in the ATX would have been small due to the weather. It has been raining here for the past 3 days straight. It was cool enough to wear a long sleeves and the O.G. even though it is covered leaks. The amount to space to ride was drastically cut down by small bodies of water dividing up the garage. Amazingly enough we had a total of 16 people out to ride. We even had 2 street riders Mike and Eric and a skater by the name of Tom.
Added to the list of special guest soon to be a regular was Gary First.

This is Tod Miller talking about the very inspiring Gary First.

How to Bar Spin with Grandma

The Sharp End Athletic Demo

On January 8, 2011 the ATX Flatland Crew were invited to the “Sharp End Athletics” grand opening to do a flatland demonstration of flatland stunts. This was the very first event for us in 2011 and everyone was excited to ride. It was being hosted by friends of the crew Ben and Ashlee. They provided food beverages, DJ and a small flat area for us to ride in. Our riding spot was a cleared out section of a warehouse. It was filled with dust so the spot was very slick. We gave it a good mopping and that helped out a bit but it was still kind of slick. We all look at it as if we were at JoMoPro getting ready to ride for competition.

The event ran very smoothly and there many people amazed at the tricks that were being seen. I met some one he was really impressed with the display of tricks. I went to promote BMX Freestyler and tell him that he could find more information about the flatland there. He told me he had already been to BMX Freestyler because he saw that the ATX Crew was coming to the event. I thought that was ultra cool.

The Crew took a couple of breaks to see some of the other activities that were going on. There was a training area that was filled with equipment. There was 1 piece of equipment that got everyone attention. It was a strap that was pulled very tight. It was designed to build balance and work out your core strength area. There were 2 versions a short one that was very fun to stand on and see how balance you were. The longer one really tested your core strength. It was fun to watch everyone trying to make progress with this strap.

Surprised guest Michael Shao from Collage Station, TX showed up to participate in the demo. We had not seen Michael in a while and he had 1 heck of a growth spurt. Along with growing in size, he also had a new Colony Cube. It was a great fit for him and everyone’s jaws dropped when he found the sweet spot to spin very fast. He was whipping around Mc Circles at and incredible speed and switching into spinning half hikers and back. Jim was recording at the time he hit that link so we will have to be on the look out for this one.

Michael will be turning 16 on Monday the 10th of January. This trip to Austin was in celebration of this birthday from his parents. He will be getting his license and driving very soon. We will be seeing more of Michael this year as he becomes more mobile and able to get around.

There was a dunking booth as well. People took turns trying to dunk Ben in the pool of water. It was very entertaining as everyone was shouting and yelling trying their best to hit the target. Ben was a great sport as he took a few dips in the water because he got dunked!

The evening ended around 8:30 and things were winding down. A few of us went to the O.G. to finish off a great evening of fun and activates. Thanks to everyone that came out to make this grand opening a very fun event. Big shout out to Ben and Ashlee for wanting to have the ATX Flatland Crew at the grand opening. If you have questions or would like to know more about the Sharpe End Athletics in Austin, Texas please visit there site http://www.sharpendathletics.com/default.html]

Two and a Half Flatlanders

History Lesson with the Hang 5

Kevin Jones, Ride BMX UK august 2005: The Hang Five. As weird as it seems, at the time, at least for the first month or so, I just treated it as a way to get into the squeaker. I had a contest routine and I started off with a squeaker and then I did a whole routine or whatever. And then the next time I wanted to do the same combo and add some shit to it. I was messing around in my garage and I figured instead of hitting my brakes I could just pop up and coast a little bit to the end of my garage, do it forward for a while then go into a squeaker. First I went five feet and I was stoked, then ten feet, then I ran out of space, then I went out into the street, which is kind of a slant, and I went to the top of the road and I hauled down the road doing it. It was something that I learned in ten minutes; like ten minutes before I couldn't do it, then I was going a couple of hundred feet. And I was freaking out. It didn't open up any doors at the time, really, because there wasn't a hitchhiker, there wasn't a lot of front wheel rolling type combos. So I pretty much did it no-footed, did it one-handed, did little combos out of it. Then later, of course, it led to much more stuff. I remember showing people and I didn't even think it was a good trick at the time. I thought it was a corky way to get into something, almost like a peg wheelie. Then I went to a contest and did it and everybody thought they were seeing a brand new trick, like something totally different. I thought that was cool. Then everybody learned it.
