The Trick of the Month has become a staple of BMX Freestyler and Global-Flat. The Tradition shall continue on for the year of 2010. My goal over the years was to help riders out there stay motivated learning tricks and pushing the envelope that new variations would be thought of at the same time. All tricks in the Trick of the Month are a Beginner/Intermediate Level. That way all rider can participate or make attempts.

Here is how Trick of the Month works. Every month there will be a new trick in the spotlight. You can do 1 of 2 things.

1. Post a video or photo of you performing the designated trick for that month/

2. Make comments to help or inspire each other.

Variations are a good thing! So if you got something unusual and different please share with everyone. 09 was a great year for participation. I hope to keep the tradition going with some new tricks thrown into the mix along with some old faithful.

Here is my diary of a Seat Grab Hang 10. Big Props to 5hane for getting me over the mental block and showing me it was just like other tricks I was already doing. The OG also know as The Oltorf Garage is located in Austin,Texas. It is the home riding spot for the Austin Flatland Crew. It was found by member EZ Chris around 1999. Hosting many riders over the years this location has become legendary. Attracting great riders from all over the world with the likes of  Robert Castillo,Trevor Myers, Terry Adams, Matthias Dandois, Shintaro Misawa and many many more. The Austin Flatland Crew members on saturdays can range from 6 to 20 riders on any given Saturday Afternoon. You can typically find someone riding through the other days but Saturdays is the day we gather in massess ride flatland together. The OG even has its very own Facebook page. There is also a Facebook group called I ride at the Legendary Oltorf Garage.
Recently ATX Crew member Jim Mckay started http://flatstyle.blogspot.com/2010/09/og-pictures.html There you can find some great photos like the one on top of the OG and a few of the members that showed up for a Saturday Session at the hottest spot in Texas.

BMX Freestyler Mail Bag

Every once in awhile I get a email that just really makes my day. This is one of those emails that I wanted to share with everyone.  Thanks Matt!!

Hello Texas, hello rad dad !

I`ve been watching your Page for quite a while now. Man - it ROCKS! I used to do FAT BMX Magazine with Bart de Jong when it was still a xerox zine and I am still supporting it, maybe you know the page. I`m a 40 plus Flatlander, and still ride. That`s why I respect your scene there so much. Old school, new school, big or skinny, black or white, brakes or not and everything in between. That`s what makes Flatland such a unique sport / culture. And your little scene on the other side of the planet represents this. I`ve been around the globe on my bike and actually never seen such a scene so mixed as yours. Maybe the southbank scene when I lived in London.

Anyway I just wanted to pay some respect to you guys. I`ll organize a comp next summer here in Germany, maybe someone of you guys want to come over, enjoy some Bratwurst and Sauerkraut, take a look at the bavarian culture and spin a little on the german soil.

Greets,
Matt Pingel, Curb Dogs Germany

From R-L George,Chris,Hecktor,Alex,John,Jim,Josh,Adam,Pete and Paul
The Patriot Jam was hosted by Team McDuff on 9/11/2010. It was held in Cedar Park, Texas. This  was a time to gather and reflect on the attack on the U.S.A. We took the time to share stories about where we were that unforgettable day.  We were joined by riders from the surrounding area. We even had George TenEyck from Forth Worth,TX join the Jam. He wins the award for traveling the furthest for the Jam.

Photo of Adam DiClaudio by Mark Danridge
Stand out star rider for the day goes to Adam DiClaudio. He was noticed by special spectator Dana a 50 year old ex BMXer from California. He noticed Adam out of the group of riders that had that special gift and flair for riding. Adam is sponsored by Clown Dog Bike Shop, Ophicial Clothing,The Fresh Up Clothing Shop, Team McDuff, BMXfreestyler.com and Runnur Straps.

Global Flat Online Battle History Round 2-5

After watching my good friend Jim Mckay participate in round 1 of the Global-Flat Battles I became inspired to do so my self. The contest is run by Davis Dudelis aka Ondo. During round 1 there were 3 classes. Beginner, Expert and Master. There were a few of us out there that fall in between beginner and Expert Class. Between my self, Rad Dad and a few other we were able to find enough riders to create a new class. The intermediate class. This was the very first video that I submitted for Round 2 Preliminary round.

                 brian84corvette vs Mark (raddad67)

Amazingly enough I was able to advance to the next round the quarter finals. But for situations that was out of my control my good friend Clint was not able to put together a video due to a injury. So my quarter final run was uncontested.

                           clint23 vs Mark (raddad67)

The semi finals were next and I was going up the amazing Wouter van der Linde. We have known each other for some time and we have been feeding of each others riding. I had just learned Cliffhangers during the competition and Messiah it was time to put those to tricks together.

Wouter van der Linde VS Mark(raddad67)

Finally it was time for the finals and it was my good friend Brad. We have rode together on a few different occasions and we had competed against each other before. He was victorious during this final battle. I gave him a good run for the final stretch.

                 Bradlandr74 VS Mark(raddad67)

        Global Flat Battles Round 3

It was time once again for global flat battles and still living from my high from round 2. I am feeling confident and ready to ride. My first battle was with Lurtz uruk. But there was something I noticed about this round. The riding level had increased significantly from round 2. This was going to be a much tougher battle. My riding level would have to improve in order to stay in the competition.

                  Lurtz uruk VS Mark(raddad67)

Next was the quarter finals. I was up against Kevin Brill. Kevin took this round with his silky smooth transition between tricks and a higher degree of difficulty. Even though I had made great strides with my personal progression. It was not enough to stay inside this competition.

              Kevin at Kassel vs Mark(raddad67)

                 Round 4 Global Flat Battles

Here we are at the Round 4 of the global flat battles. I wasn't going to compete in this round. I was going to sit this one out and keep working on my personal progression. Round 3 made me realize that if I was going to win any competition I was going to have to keep pushing my self harder each round. Harder than I ever had before. The battles have always motivated me and pushed me to learn new tricks. In Round 4 I am going to keep pushing my personal progression at the same time do my best to put together combinations of tricks that can get me back into to finals of the intermediate class. We are still waiting for round 4 to begin but here is the video that has been submitted to be pitted against another competitor.

Round 5
Here we are at round number 5. I wasn't going to particpate during this round. I started to film but I kept going out of frame. But due to lack of participation Ondo contact me and asked if I could still submit a video. I did just that the same day he asked. I was battling Adrew. Adrew won 5-0 way to go Andrew

http://www.youtube.com/v/wGS44JvLfD0?version=3&hl=en_US">name="allowFullScreen" value="true">http://www.youtube.com/v/wGS44JvLfD0?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true">
Orginally I was going to joing the Global Battles but the time I finally got to film I ran out of the frame so I could not submitt.  I got a message from Ondo saying there were some spots that needed to be filled. So I told him I would do my best to try and get something on film. These were not the trick that I wanted but they were the tricks I was able to pull. I am missing my editor right now so I used Movie Maker just so I could get it out today. WOW Good times for sure. Keep on Riding!

If you would like to participate or just follow this online competition. Just visit this link to global-flat. You can visit the forum as a guest but if you want to make a post you will need to sign up for a account. Look for the Round 4 to be starting up in the next few weeks.

Keep on Riding!

Adam DiClaudio's New Switch

On September 3, 2010 Adam DiClaudio hit a new switch into Half Packer. Filmed by Josh Duffek the very first one ever hit was on film as well. Adam gives credit to Vicki Gomez for this switch. He calls it a Steamroller underhand barflip 360 pivot to halfpacker!

Adam Says "Just wanted to put it out there that this is Vicki Gomez's trick, and I learned it cause I liked it and it looked fun/hard. I would like to dedicate this to Vicki. I appreciate his originality immensely."

Wednesday Night Lights

226 bars are really hot.  I'm on it like a sticky hot piece a gum on the bottom of your shoe on a 106 degree Texas day fool.  You should get some too.  Otherwise, you will just be sitting there salivating over the pair on Aaron Frost's bike.  He'll make some more so go ahead and get a pair.  ANyway, life is good at the og.  The walls of this place just sweat flatland.  Happy birthday John Yull.  Footjam tailwhip to decade at 40?  Powerful jedi is he...hmm...powerful jedi.
