Silver Contreras has been visiting Austin,TX since Texas Flatland Roundup went down last week. I had the pleasure to ride with her this weekend along with the mighty ATX Flatland Crew. We shared stories, rode hard and enjoyed the day. Fun Fact.....Silver joined the BMX Freestyler Message board back in 2004 and we finally met in person in 2016. Thank you Silver for the great introduction too!
A few month back Prasheel Gopal asked me about starting a new diary to learn Halfpacker. There have been many challenges so far. The biggest one being time. I don't have as much time as I used to but I am going to start this journey and thanks to Prasheel I am going to focus on a trick I have wanted to do for some time now. The next one I will post will show progression!
In Celebration of my 45th Birthday I threw a jam at my home riding spot. I knew I would be working on my birthday so it only made sence to throw it the weekend before my actual birthday. Several of my friends were able to make it out for a day of riding. It was a great time with good friends. Donna was able to capture many of the great moments that went down. The next contest for me will be Texas Flatland Round Up 8. Its never to early to get start getting links ready. I have been working on this link for a month now. At first I was lucky to pull this once in a session. I have worked my way up to three times in a session. My consistancy is starting to build with this trick and a few others. At voodoo Jam 2012 I took 3rd place in the Vet Class and one of the prizes was a $50 dollar gift certificate from Dans Comp. I knew exactly what I need because my seat post was cracked.
It was also time for a new seat. Adam DiClaudio had given me this seat a few years back and I got great use out of it but it was falling apart and there were little metal parts sticking out and the rear portion kept moving around.
I place my order in on Friday and it arrived in the mail box on the very next Friday.
I had never placed a order through Dans Comp before and I called and placed my order with Abe. We talked a bit about Matt Wilhelm and Terry Adams and Voodoo Jam. He was stoked on my placement and even more stoked that I was a older rider still out there making it happen. He then blew my mind and was able to wave the shipping charges and also threw in a red Dans Comp T-Shirt.
I am very stoked to have a new seat and seat post. I ended up getting a MacNeil 330 Pivotal Seat Post 330 mm long and The Shadow Conspiracy Crow Pivotal Seat. It was a great prize because it was exactly what I needed!
I got this great idea to shoot new film of my first session with the new seat and post. Jim Mckay had just got a new lens and asked if he could film some links on top of the O.G. It was perfect timing for both of us. I told him about my idea and he was down to make it happen.

This is Rad Dad taking 3rd place at Voodoo Flatland Jam 2012. It is the greatest feeling in the world to be able to ride with friends and be recognized and made to feel as if you just won the largest contest of your life. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Vet Class and making a large impact at the Voodoo Flatland Jam. I hope to see more Vet Classes at all the contest and start up a PRO VET class as well. So the older AFA pro riders can throw down as well.
Its time to get ready for Voodoo 2012! The Vet class is shaping up to be the largest vet class yet with at least 15 registered riders. After a 3rd place at Jomopro 2012 I have my work cut out to stay in the top 3. I will be working hard the next few weeks getting more constant with my tricks and pushing my progression as well. Also a special shout out to Jim Mckay of Flatstyles on his birthday. He created Today's riding Videos. They are a growing trend in the flatland community. RIP Donna Sommers. A few weeks ago I was surfing on Global-Flat and I was looking at the rider hook up forum. That when I ran across a post from Old Yeller looking for riders in the San Antonio area.
I met up with Old Yeller on this Saturday for a great 2 hour session. We only live about 20 minutes from each other so we are pretty close. We will be able to have regular riding sessions together during the week. Maybe next week we will head up to the O.G. And ride with rest of the ATX Crew.

There was a post on Facebook that Tod Miller was going to be riding in San Marco,Texas today and was inviting any and all people to come and ride. It had been about a month since I have been on my bike due to work and bike issues. So I really wanted to take the opportunity to meet up with Tod for a Flatland Session. It was a great time with Tod we hit up 3 different spots. We took a couple of photos in the last to location.

I am far from being in celebrity status. Its not every day that I am recognized doing everyday things like getting my oil changed. Travis noticed the bmx related things I had in my car and asked what kind of frame I had sitting there. As we were talking and I told him that I ride Flatland BMX he all of a sudden had a perplexed look on his face. I then told him that some people call me Rad Dad and then he made the connection! He then told me that he had seen videos I had made that Fat Tony had posted on Ride BMX! He rides Street and Dirt but he keeps tabs on the Flatland scene as well. That was music to my ears as we procceded to talk about Aaron Ross, Matthias Dandois and Terry Adams. This 100% Made my day so complete. This was the first time I was not at a BMX event that someone reconzied me from a web video that I created and was in.

On the 4th of July Rad Dad went out to hang with Jim Mckay from Flatstyles. We got a early morning session in before it got to hot. Jim was kind enough to put together a bit of or session together. It was a very windy day in Texas on May 1, 2011. I was going to film for the global flat battles but when I got in I saw that I kept going out of frame. So I decided to make a new today's riding video. I will have to try again another day to film for the battles. On hopefully to stay in frame and on a day that is not so windy. Keep on Riding!
This video is from 2004 when I started riding all over again. At this point I had started relearning my old trick. I wasn't completing many of them at the time. I was very excited to be riding again. Today's riding was all about having fun and getting a bit crazy. I threw in some straight messiahs so Jeroen Dekker could study my position in the trick. It was a over all very good day of riding. Nothing new but still very fun!
