David Weathersby 26th Birthday Jam

Here at in the ATX we celebrate our crew memebers birthdays with a Birthday Jam. Some times we even get a video from the day. This is David's 26th Birthday. During the sesison I got a phone call from Chris Balles. Long time friend of David and he couldn't make it out. He passed a message through me and asked David to to 26 rotations of a spining, pumping, no handed, crackpacker. 1 rotation for every year he has been alive. On the first attempt David nailed 25 of them...just 1 shy. On the second attempt he did over 26 but fell out on the ride out. He was winded from all the pumping but he was determined to get all 26 on film. He did just that and a few more to grow on. Be sure to watch past the credits for the Bonus Footage!

Happy Birthday David!!

Adam Celebrates his 26th Birthday

So I am sitting at home relaxed and I get this message from John Yull. Hey Mark, We are having a Birthday Session for Adam are you coming? That was all I needed to pack up the Camera and Bike and roll out to the O.G. on a Sunday Afternoon. In the part of town that I am in its very wet out side, but by the time I get to the O.G. The sun is out and everything looks amazing. Adam Diclaudio, John Yull and EZ Chris were holding it down when I arrived. Adam picked up a New Camera to start filming more Session. Set it up in a good spot and we all attempted to ride in the small square trying to stay in frame. I pulled out my camera as well and did some hand held camera work as well.
Adam was getting frustrated with his Superpower and was ready to to ride the Tantra for the Flatland Round Up so in the middle of the session Adam put together his new frame. Its only a temporary fix until his custom frame arrives. But Adam on the Tantra is Amazing. He looked so much more comfortable and was doing things we had not seen in awhile.
The Session ended with photos of everyone with Adam and plans to see each other during the week if possible and next stop...Texas Flatland Round Up 5!

BMX WORLDS 2009 VIDEO from woozybmx.com on Vimeo.

The Urban Assault Flatland Show

A few weeks back a few members of the Austin Flatland Crew put on a show for the Urban Assault riders. We had 2 sets of shows for about 30 min a piece. Each show was a lot of fun. The second show was much larger than the first. In all we had many great comments from the spectators and they seemed to enjoy watching the tricks that we pulled for there entertainment.

BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink

The BMX Worlds 2009 presented by ROCKSTAR Energy Drink from 10th till 12th of July are about to get rolling. The park-area and the dirt-track are ready to be dominated by the worlds BMX elite.

Düsseldorf/Cologne July, 7th 2009 Just four days away from kick off and construction work for the BMX Worlds 2009 at the Jugendpark in Cologne has already finished. BMX-Gourmand and spielbetrieb Managing Director Peter Jandt (40) along with the camp-ramps team have worked very hard to serve, what roughly 250 adrenalin-longing park riders and their fans came to enjoy - a hell of a ride! Innovation and flow were top of the list of priorities while creating this over-the-top BMX park.

This year they spawned an amazing combination of four different floors, which are all connected with transitions, channels and wicked wallrides. The results are endless amounts of different tricks and lines, enabling a very diverse and exciting contest experience for visitors and riders alike.
Along with the beloved classics, there are also some new additions to the BMX Worlds 2009 menu. „The new pyramid with a curb on top and a giant Channel-Wallride called Mac will demand everything from and give a lot back to all riders - were just fired up about the opportunities, says Peter Jandt.

Once again experienced dirt-shaper and pro-rider duo Markus Hampl (29) and Benjamin Paulsen (27) have come together under the Zoobrücke in Cologne, to create an innovative and stunning new edition of the BMX Worlds dirt line. This years track comes complete with a spectacular seven meter roll-in followed by a steep turn to catapult riders down a roller and over three highly technical jumps.
The exclusive location right next to the river and under the cover of this giant structure, will give birth to an exceptional atmosphere, that is unique to the BMX Worlds at the Jugendpark Cologne. Bikes will be flying high!

From flying high to laying low: Four hundred square meters of the smoothest wooden floor, DJ Frictions mix of the riders favourite tunes and very, very special guests will drive all flatland aficionados crazy. Under these circumstances this once again open air contest will be one for the books.

For our mini ramp contest weve got the worlds biggest portable and one of the most popular mini ramp set up for the riders to shred away. They will make no secret of what the „Braun cruZer Spine has to offer to both, the riders, and the audience.

Last but not least were proud to announce that theres a worldcup-tested half pipe waiting to crown one of the high class competitors in this supreme discipline of BMX.

All in all, this years BMX Worlds tracks are shaping up to become the perfect playground for an extraordinary riders elite, that no adrenaline junkie would want to miss out on!

IFC "Independent Freestyle Committee" Press Release

Independent Freestyle Committee shines new light on the BMX Community

The IFC BMX Kicked off its new set of events for BMX riders worldwide this Month with its first event in Colorado Springs providing a new governing sanction body for Freestyle BMX. The Proceeds from the Events will go towards local non-profit organizations and improvement for local parks for our youth.

Colorado Springs, Colorado-- Its has been a long time since the Action Sports Community has seen a Governing Body for Freestyle BMX but now thanks the father of two young BMX riders in Colorado the BMX Community has a new light and a hope for the progression of the sport. Mark Huffman, owner of Suburban Shred Bmx and Skate shop decided this year it is time to help the sport of BMX move forward and give our young freestyle BMX riders a chance to show their talents in a new set of tournaments and events!

The IFC BMX is only preceded by the ASPA freestyle events started in 1983 only to die out in the late 80’s after the riding level advancement and bike sales drop. Sponsorships begin to get scarce. The freestyle sanctioning body, The American Freestyle Association (AFA), closed up shop. And one by one the magazines and companies folded. The sport of freestyle BMX has changed very much since then and now it is progressing faster than ever before. “ The Independent Freestyle Committee is in place to govern organized freestyle events and give a definition and purpose to the sport of Freestyle BMX” says Founder Mark Huffman. Current sponsors of the event include The March Forth Supply Company, Transworld Ride Bmx, and Mirra Bike Co.

Under the IFC rules of members and Participants may accumulate points at any IFC organized function in the U.S. Additionally, a statewide level points program will be offered for an increased interest of competition. Each IFC BMX member and event is a separate entity with the common goal of providing competitive yet safe and fun BMX competition. The members of each event are committed to operating under IFC guidelines to insure those goals. It is, however, the Participants and his/her parent's responsibility to understand and follow these competition regulations.

Flatland Hits TV!!

I was watching fuel tv when BAM...I saw a bunch of people I know personally. I hit record so you could see it too. Enjoy!!!

jomopro coverage on fuelTV.

so i saw a tweet from steve laps today saying:
FuelTV will feature some flatland with interviews to include Team Pralex!!! WATCH IT

i didn't notice this till about 7:30 my time...i found fuel's site that said:

JoMoPro 2009
JoMoPro 2009 The JoMoPro is a one of kind BMX event, combining top prize money with a pressure-free, rider-friendly environment that attracts the best riders in the world.
Mon Wed Thu Sat Sun
(http://www.fuel.tv/Contests)

holy wow! i twittered, myspaced, facebooked, and texted...to no avail. no one i know (or who loves me enough to reply) has fuelTV...so i made my neighbor and non-flatland-hetero-life-partner order it :) it took being on hold for 15 minutes...but once you actually get to a person...comcast can hook some shit up!

after walking richard's dogs and getting my mind right...the program started. it was a bunch of stuff about three of the street riders that went there, with some rad footage of autumn ramp park, along with some stuff about the town of joplin.

then about 15 minutes in they have a little segment on the flatland contest and flatland riding in general. it was pretty rad. i took up about a square centimeter of 1 second when the judges table was in a shot. lol.

i saw...scott ditchfield, adam diclaudio, art thomason, alex piorier, andy cooper, justin miller, and a whole lot of matt wilhelm riding...and pretty much everyone in the pro-class.

they had "commentary" with jason childers(and his awesome mustache), and hector garcia. some other dudes. the flatland part of the "show" only took up a few minutes...but it was cool they put it on.

thanks fuelTV!

Diary of a Cliffhanger "In The Beginning"

On June 15, 2009 I started actively trying the bmx flatland trick called a Cliffhanger. It’s a trick that I didn’t think I would ever attempt because of the danger factor. Tyler Gillard blew me away because I had no Idea that he even knew how to do one let alone bar flipping between rotations. Terry Adams said if you can learn to ride your bike upside down with your legs crossed you can do anything you want in this world. I believe that whole heartedly. With enough time and dedication you can do anything you want on a bike. This is my Diary of a Cliffhanger “In the Beginning” June 15-26 2009.

twitter for (bmx) dummies

[correction to previous post..owen bohn is 17 years old.
not 15...still friggin amazing.]

sorry for calling you dummies...my bad. so a few months ago when i heard about twitter, much like sushi, i refused to bite on it. but i kept on hearing a bunch of cool stuff about it, and then i wanted to help CNN beat ashton kutcher in the "race to a million followers"...so i signed up to follow them. they lost...but i tried...

anyway, if you aren't into building much of a public profile...and want something simple you can get a bunch of rad news on check out twitter. here are some cool people/profiles to follow:
flatland fuel
empire bmx
ride bmx
kurt schmidt
odyssey bmx
soul bmx
diego tejada
the come up
profile racing
jared souney
corey martinez
mike escamilla
mutiny bikes
belladonna
standard byke company
(cough) me (cough)
macneil bikes
mark eaton
brian tunney
chris doyle
orchid bmx
the much better half of team mcduff
(hopefully i didn't screw up any of that html..sorry if so...use search function)

...i'm mostly pulling that from wefollow.com/bmx(or whatever). the list could go on forever...depending on what you are into. i follow like 800 people...but, i'm an internet dork.

but like i said, you get some good stuff on there in a nice condensed 140 or less type message. more faster better multitasking! :) basically, when i'm in line somewhere i pull up my twitter feed (on fancy phone) and read weird stuff till i'm done waiting...or when i'm on the pooper and it's going to be awhile...

one thing to know...before you get on there and post a bunch of lameness...be aware that your thoughts quite possibly are being broadcast to an endless number of listeners...so don't be boring and don't argue with stuff....just read and enjoy...or not.

mark posted a new video of his riding, please watch and give him some deserved props:

mark is an inspiration to...hell, anyone looking for a positive outlook on life. he has kept me inspired to ride over the past 4.5 years and will continue till, until our bodies give out...or until advil decides to sponsor us.

peace and flatland!

ps: i should be getting ready for york jam...but i like waiting to the last minute to do stuff...

My Best Combo Ever!

Yesterday during my session I was filming for Trick of the Month. I deciede to do some other tricks. It was pretty cool because I usually don't land tricks but just keep going through the motions. I got many tricks in that day and I was Done!!! Did my introduction for trick of the month but there was a trick still haunting me. I knew I could pull it I just had not done it thus far. It was my very last attempt and I pulled it! Hang5-Steam-Hitchhicker-Steam-Out! This marks the day that I did combo in and out for my hitchhiker....Ooooo it feels so goood! Progression for the past several months felt more like regression. I just never gave up!

Tragedy at the O.G.

2:00 P.M In Austin, Texas May 30, 2009. We held the Last Saturday Jam. It started out with our friends from Corpus showing up about 2 P.M. I got a phone call from Michael as they were looking for the exact location of the Oltorf Garage. I was able to direct him because he was right across the street from the garage. I gave him a text back to make sure he found it okay. To my dismay he texted me back that after there arrival they were kicked out by a Travis County Employee. They were told it would be better if they didn’t ride there bikes at this location. With out creating more drama they packed up and left and drove around the city of Austin and took in a few of the sites.

3:00 P.M. I receive a call from Adam DiClaudio. I told him that our guest were at the O.G. but had gotten kicked out. He chalked it up to maybe being there just a little too early and someone was still working. He was still headed out to the O.G. and would let me know what was up later on.

5:00 P.M. “Where you at?” said Adam as I gave him a call. I am on my way to pick up Hecktor Dangus and I am on my way. I scoop Hecktor up and we make it down for an evening of flat fun!

6:00 P.M. We pulled into the O.G. and it was packed. Many of the O.G. riders were ripping it up and doing what we do every Saturday afternoon, riding flatland. Ruben Castillo, David Weathersby, EZ Chris Anderson, Leo (on Crutches), Jim Mckay, Adam DiClaudio, Chris Mead, Michael and Brandon from Corpus, Chris Balles, Julio Cotto, Mark Dandridge and Hecktor Dangus.

7:00 P.M. Chris Balles tells me that the Texas Flatland Round UP 5 is officially going to happen this year on October 10, 2009. More details to follow so go ahead and mark it down on your calendars. This event will give the Beginner/Intermediate/Expert and Pro riders an opportunity to compete.

8:00 P.M. Things are starting to wind down people have been peeling off and headed home. We got there so late we were trying to get as much riding time as possible. It got down to my self (Mark) and Julio still working on tricks while everyone else has gone in to social mode and just chilling out.

9:00 P.M. The most unimaginable thing happens while Julio was working on his whiplash variation. Just as he was about to complete his very first one his arm comes out of socket and he is screaming in pain. He didn’t fall on the ground. He was holding his arm in pain and I could see that things were not normal. He tells everyone he thinks his shoulder has been dislocated and he needs emergency help. I dial 9-1-1 the ambulance arrives quickly. The EMT was not very friendly and made this situation harder to deal with than it already was. Julio was hoping that the EMT would be able to place his arm back in the socket but he said he was not equipped to do this task and he would have to take a ride on the ambulance or a ride with one of his buddies to get the medical attention that he needs. Julio opted for the EMT to take him because he was in no condition to sit up and ride.

10:00 P.M. The E.R. room is extremely crowded and it takes a while for the front desk to find Julio for me. Hecktor Dangus and I have gone to the E.R. room to help take care of Julio after everything is done. I go to Exam Room 10 and see Julio hooked up to an EKG and IV and still in a lot of pain. They are trying to get x-ray team down and confirm what everyone believes is an out of socket arm.

11:00 P.M. The x-ray shows conclusive and they begin getting things ready. Julio was given drugs for the pain and to put him under for about 15 mines. I was watching the whole time and with in 1 min of the drugs being injected he was out. The doctor then pulled his arm and pushed up and in just popped into place. Everyone was pleased with how well it went and said Julio would be waking up in about 10 min or so. They were not lying at all. In fact he was awake a bit faster than 10 min. I told Julio it was over and his arm was back in place. He was still kind of out of it but he was coming around.

12:00 A.M. We are now getting checked out of the E.R. Room. They have completely skipped the initial part that comes first and started asking detailed information. It was kind of weird but it was nice they didn’t try and do all that while Julio was in pain and could barley think about anything else. Since Julio lives about 2 hours away in San Antonio. Hecktor Dangus offers his home to sleep at through the night so we don’t have to take the drive home after everything else that has happen that night and Julio can get some much needed rest for the night. Julio accepted and we got him settled in for the night.

1:00 A.M. I make it home for the night. I make a text message to a few riders so they don’t worry about Julio. I crash out for the night.

11:00 A.M. I called Hecktor Dangus to see how the night went. Julio was doing just fine. He was planning on driving home latter on. He is happy that the ordeal is almost over. Just a few days in a sling and things can go back to normal. This was the worst accident in my time at the O.G. to ever happen. It taught me a valuable lesson and to have some plans in place if this was to ever happen to my self or my other friends. Yes it was a freak accident but these things can happen. It’s beneficial to insure that you carry your insurance card and contact information for emergency contact with you at all times. Keep safe and Keep on Riding!

Stranded at JoMoPro

On the way back from JoMoPro I get a phone call from some one I had never met before. I shall refer to him as D. D received my number from a David Weathersby and was trying to get a ride home from JoMoPro. The big problem was we were just about 1 hour away from home. It was a total of a 9 hour ride home. D was stranded by people that got him there in the first place. After a few phone calls to many friends, I was able to get ahold of Paul who lives in Joplin to see if he could take D in for the night. Paul did so much more than just take him in. He volenterred to drive him and others so they could get back home. Our community of flatlanders and parkriders is small. I think its totally amazing how 2 people that have never met before can work through what could have been a horride time being left outside with no transporation or warm place to stay to being provided a way home.

As it turns out I only live about 5 or so Miles from D. I am looking forward to meeting him some day so we can ride.

Session with Terry Adams

Okay here is the WHOLE Story. I was at the Rodeo last weekend when I saw I missed a call. It was Terry Adams! Then I saw his Text. He was going to be in town and wanted to know if we rode on Sunday. I immediately texted everyone to come out to the O.G. because Terry Adams was going to arrive. Instantly I got replies with questions like where and when. I had a hard time trying to type during the Rodeo but I tried my best. Terry was not sure if he would be able to ride Sunday or not because of his show he had to do. So I again let everyone know that it may not happen but everything worked out.
Caleb and I went over to pick up Hector Dangus and we boogied to the O.G. This was the first time Terry had ever been to the O.G. and it was a honor and a pleasure to hang out with him at our Legendary Spot. Any other time I rode with Terry it was at a Conest or Jam. Never just a group session setting. The entire day was session was filled with good times and great riding.
Terry busted out some Funkychicken Variations that BLEW ME AWAY. I didn't have the camera out so I can't share it with you just know that he was switching the whole time left side to ride side and switch foot and backwards foot! Always be sure to check here because this is where I will leave the whole story for the faithful bmx freestyler blog readers. I will do my best to keep it going!

New Updates to BMX Freestyler

Hey Everyone!

Spread the Word. BMX Freestyler is now easier to Navigate. For some time now I have been hearing the feed back about it being hard to find what you wanted. I have come up with a very simple design that allows you to find things much easier now. I will be deleting Find a Riding Buddy. That was just to much matainance and was constantly out of date information. I will however be making archives to the collectors corner. It was a favorite of many of the visitors here and I will be making a return. If you find any broken links or something not displaying correctly please let me know. Please feel free to make comments too!

I will be there for sure. We need to support those that support us. This could be a huge deal, so let's show up in full force and represent FLAT.

Ok, here's some more news on the event from a different point of view...

Ride BMX Magazine has been a sponsor of Jomopro for the past two years. The event has grown tremendously since it started three years ago and they plan to keep the flatland part of the event growing as well.

The people that run The Bridge in Joplin are an amazing group of people that have a real passion for what they do. Their entire organization is incredible.

The park contest prize money is up to $25,000 for pros, so just imagine if flatland is a success this year and gets bigger each year like the park comp has done...

The contest will be in the music venue that's inside The Bridge—think hardcore rock concert hall. It's a dope location and Catfish will be there to pump up the crowd. I even heard rumor that the pro flat finals may be the last event of the weekend followed by a party in the same venue to end the weekend.

When not riding, you can chill in the arcade, use the computers, play basketball or dodgeball, climb the rock wall, eat at the pizza bar, or watch the park contest. The people at Jomopro even have a rider lounge with food and massages! They really take care of the riders that come out to the contest.

I'll be working with Pat and the people at Jomopro to help organize some details of the event and do some consulting on how to run everything. I've helped do some consulting for the park contest for the past few years and they are really good at taking advice from people who can help the event be successful.

You can expect the same format that the World Circuit and Voodoo Jam use.

Much more details to come, but take off work and make travel plans now!

This year is looking great for flatland in the U.S. with Fight With Flight, Jomopro, and Voodoo Jam...see you there!

Extreme Riding on One Wheel?

I had the pleasure of meeting Stephen while visiting Corpus Christi. I was riding with Aaron Frost when he showed up and blew us away with his skills on one wheel. I know its not bmx but its just as impressive and I wanted to share this footage on BMX Freestyler.
The location was a miniature skate park with movable ramps and obstacles that also had a large flat spot to ride on also. There were skaters, flatlanders and Unicyclist there for the session. It was a great time.
